RPT Sports Performance Mission

RPT Sports Performance was started as a response to a need of quality sports performance training in the community for all athletes. RPT (Registered Physical Therapists, Inc) is a private physical therapy practice with multiple locations in the Salt Lake valley and also in Elko, NV providing outpatient orthopedic care. In addition to general orthopedic care for all people we specialize in sports medicine and are directly affiliated with many of the high schools in our areas. Therefore, we see a lot of athletes that come in for injuries sustained during practice and games in various sports.

A good percentage of the time these injuries are not caused from impact or traumatic means. What this means is that many of these injuries can be preventable with proper strength, agility, power, flexibility, and functional movement training. Programs in the community that are currently provided range in quality from very good to dangerously bad.

It is therefore, the goal of RPT Sports Performance is to provide athletes with quality, evidence-based, and closely supervised strength and conditioning training by highly qualified professionals to decrease the risk of injury and to enhance athletic performance.

RPT Sports Performance sets itself apart through the approach it takes to properly address functional impairments first before trying to improve an athlete's performance abilities. Evidence suggests athletes that are efficient and symmetrical in their functional movements (according to their particular sport) are at a decreased risk for injury during athletic events. This sounds very simple but many programs do not address these issues and primarily work on increasing speed, power, and agility only, usually compounding dysfunction and placing the athlete at increased risk of injury.

Our programming is dictated by a functional movement analysis at the beginning of training that all athletes will undergo. This helps identify abnormalities and imbalances in their function and allows us to correct them making the athlete more durable in their particular sport. Only once the athlete demonstrates proper functional movement patterning will their program shift towards enhancing their athletic abilities such as speed, power, and agility. It is interesting to note that the research also suggests that by making an athlete more efficient in their functional movements they also experience gains in measures of athletic performance (speed, power, agility, etc).

Please allow us at RPT Sports Performance to give you or your athlete the training they need to remain healthy and to excel at their particular sport. You can contact us via email (mike@rptutah.com) or phone (801.446.0990). Thank you and we look forward to assisting you in maximal athletic achievement.
